SOOTS Has Been Given His Wings

Back in January 2024, BAWCS Community Pets Support Program was contacted by a devastated owner seeking help to euthanase her much-loved 10-year-old cat, Soots.
As always, we asked questions, a lot of them actually, because sometimes there’s still hope.

Soots had lived with lifelong vomiting, foul-smelling diarrhoea, and extreme weight loss, yet remained a happy, affectionate cat. We offered another option: could Dr Mandy from Bendigo Pet Vets – Mobile Veterinary Clinic assess him first?

The owner agreed and this was the beginning of a new chapter.

Soots was diagnosed with Triaditis (inflammation of the liver, pancreas, and intestines) and Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI).
He was immediately started on a treatment plan and began to improve, gaining weight, finding relief, and returning to his favourite pastime: eating.

His devoted guardian shared, “He is looking better… I think it’s because he is more comfortable and not in pain. Dr Mandy was amazing… your help means the world to me.”
While BAWCS funded Soots’ initial veterinary care, we also continued to support his guardian with the 12 months of medication and ongoing check-ups required to give him the best possible quality of life. Dr Mandy generously donated her time and care as well. 🙏

But his diagnosis of Triaditis and EPI finally caught up with him and despite the most amazing love and care, Soots’ health began to decline again.
With heartbreak and compassion, his guardian made the kindest decision to let him go peacefully.
He didn’t leave this world suffering or forgotten but wrapped in love, comfort, and dignity.

That’s what our Community Pets Support Program is here for, making sure every pet gets the care they deserve.

Fly free now, sweet Soots. You were so loved.
