FURTHER to BAWCS’s advocacy regarding City of Greater Bendigo’s advice regarding the Tender for Stage 1 of the much needed roof over the Bendigo Livestock Exchange (BLE).
They called us, they confirmed via email. This type of cooperative communication is all we have been asking for, and we thank those within Council who responded. We hope this new line of communication remains open as the Project progresses.
The $3.4 million Stage 1 project is jointly funded by the Victorian Government and City of Greater Bendigo, contributing $1.7 million each.
Council has advised that construction is scheduled to start before Christmas, and expected to be completed in mid-2027.
This is welcome progress, but Stage 1 is only Stage 1.
While Stage 1 moves through construction, funding for Stages 2 and 3 needs to be actively pursued so the remaining shelter can progress without another lengthy delay.
Until that happens, animals spending time outside the areas to be covered by Stage 1 will continue to be exposed to the elements.
Stage 1 now has a pathway to construction.
Stages 2 and 3 need a funding pathway.
