2025 Midyear Fundraiser

It’s that time of the year again when BAWCS launches our Mid Year Fundraiser – alittle later than usual but still time to take advantage of tax time with donations of $2 and over tax deductible!

As usual a busy start to the year with a strong focus on pro active support for people and their pets so they weren’t in a position of having to surrender. BAWCS work in this area includes veterinary care support, training (for dogs) and Pound reclaims.

The increase for support with Pound reclaims has prompted a submission from BAWCS to City of Greater Bendigo to consider reduced fee on the daily care amount which is where costs can quickly add up. We will update at the end of the Year round up or you can head to our Facebook Page as the result comes to hand.

It is important to note that:

  • The daily cost to house and care for an animal in the Pound is the same regardless of whether it is reclaimed or passed into adoption.
  • Current adoption fees do not recover the full cost of this care.

Thus, the Council absorbs a financial shortfall when pets are rehomed.
Yet, owners, often in financial distress are asked to cover the full amount if they wish to reclaim a loved companion.

This creates an inequitable outcome: those with the least ability to pay bear the greatest cost, while those adopting (including potentially from outside the region) benefit from a subsidised model.

AWCS recently saw an advertisement for FREE PUPPIES and were able to pick up 3 of a litter of 8. These pups need foster care so were transferred to one of the foster carer groups that work locally in Bendigo. These 3 pups at least will be fully vet worked and given the correct puppy grounding required to grow into happy healthy and social dogs before being adopted out.

Just a fraction of the work BAWCS is doing and we’ll have a full round up at the end of the year. As mentioned, head to our Facebook page for regular updates!

If you’d like to help us continue our work, please consider a donation to our mid year Appeal. Donations of $2 and over are Tax Deductible.
