Community Pets Support Program

LUMPS in senior pets should never be ignored. While many turn out to be harmless fatty growths, some can be more serious and need proper investigation.

When BAWCS Community Pets Support Program received a request for help to have a lump checked, we reviewed the owner’s circumstances and once eligibility was confirmed, 14-year-old ‘B’ was off to the vet for a full examination. ‘B’ is in remarkably good health for his age, a testament to the care and love his mum gives him, especially as he manages arthritis in his golden years.

The vet found two lumps – not just the obvious one:
Lump 1 (Right Front Leg) is about 8x5cm and soft. The vet took a sample and has sent it to an external lab to find out what it is. This is the lump they’re most concerned about, but we won’t know more until the results come back. There’s a small chance the test might not be conclusive.

Lump 2 (Left Side): This one’s smaller (about 3x2cm) and after testing it at the clinic, the vet says it looks like a simple fatty lump (a lipoma), which isn’t usually anything to worry about.
*B was a champ during the whole visit 💙 ‘B’s mum is happy to have her boy back home with her whilst she awaits the results. “Love ‘B’ and will definately be devastated if it’s cancer”.

As our pets enter their senior years, they rely on us more than ever, especially when it comes to monitoring their health.
BAWCS is pleased we could be there to help on this occasion and fingers crossed the result comes back indicating nothing serious.
